What is it like being a business student?
Business school is a rollercoaster of emotions. It’s so intense that the very thought of it can make you feel sick. The initial first few weeks can feel overwhelming and even claustrophobic, especially if you aren’t used to intense situations like this. Most people make the mistake of taking on too much in those first few weeks, which can cause them to burn out in a matter of weeks.
You’re faced with new situations each day and you can quickly become overwhelmed if you let it get to you. It’s important to remember that you’re there to learn and not to feel stressed out by it. Once you start to settle into your work, things become a lot more enjoyable.
You start to learn a lot about yourself and about how you work. You have to make sure that you keep on top of everything you’re doing and there are times when you can be found clinging on to your phone in the library, frantically searching for any spare minutes you can grab to complete an assignment.
This can get a bit frustrating at times, especially when you are trying to study for a crucial exam. It can make you feel like a failure if you don’t do well. You just have to be sure to remind yourself that you have so much to learn and so much more to come and there will be much more to come in the future.
You also make new friends, which are definitely necessary for both your personal and professional development. You will find that while at school you have a lot of opportunity to meet up with your fellow classmates and study with them. You also make new friendships with the people you have come to work with.
Along with that, there are a number of networking events that you are able to go to, allowing you to network with a number of different people. These are great opportunities to get a number of different perspectives on different areas of business and to find out which area suits you best.
