BillHop.com has come to Ohio and I’d love your input…
BillHop now has an Ohio page and it’s something I think could be an extremely useful way for us to learn more about legislation. Some basic info from their about page:
BillHop is a network of sites (for each statehouse and Congress) that allows people to track and comment on legislation while connecting with others with common interests. All content on the BillHop website is contributed by its registered users. Some users are progressive, while others are conservative. Some may be wonks in specific fields of interest. Others are just novice armchair politicos. It is hoped that this amalgamation of perspectives and experience levels will result in a body of information that accurately reflects reality, and an experience everyone can benefit from.
I’ve become a registered user/supporter to the site which means I can list information on legislation on the site, and here’s where you come in. Besides visiting once we get going listing legislation and sharing your thoughts, if there is pending legislation that you are concerned about either wanting to see it pass or not see it pass let me know so I can highlight this. The potential to be able to learn more information about what our government is doing and possibly even have our voices be heard is very great thru BillHop.
You can contact me here of course in the comments or by email at glasscityjungle @ gmail.com and I’ll provide more information/updates on our progress in starting to provide information on BillHop in the days to come.
Lisa,
“Some users are progressive, while others are conservative.”
So, I as a conservative can never be considered as capable of backing/doing something that they would consider to be progressive?
(I’m picturing a wolf typing at a keyboard while wearing a sheep’s pelt.)
The quoted statement is either a poorly worded one or a Freudian slip. . .
Before I commit, who are “they?”
February 18th, 2007 at 2:58 pmTo answer the question, “Who are they?”:
That’s me- I’m the guy behind BillHop. During the day, I work as a legislative director to a state rep in the Texas House. BillHop has been a side project of mine for almost a year now. A friend/ colleague of mine with experience in public policy also helps out with the project on the side.
If you want to know more about me and the philosophy behind the site, check out this article on the project posted in the Austinist:

We are encouraging folks with diverse perspectives to join regardless of how they classify themselves. We are building a site that not only includes people with different sets of ideological beliefs, but also individuals with a wide array of experience and knowledge in different fields of interest. The more diverse the contributions to BillHop, the more interesting the site becomes.
February 18th, 2007 at 6:17 pmThanks Damien, I really appreciate you stopping by to answer this and I am very thankful that BillHop exists. I hope I help make a difference in contributing information for all of us no matter our political titles.

February 18th, 2007 at 6:45 pmDamien,
Also thanks for coming forward!
But what about my analysis of the quoted statement?
February 20th, 2007 at 2:37 pmHooda, they are trying to get a mix of people involved so that this is something that would be very useful for everyone. I listed myself as a Democrat because that’s how I am registered but you know my focus will always be to strive to look at things from an independent viewpoint and once legislation is finally listed (The General Assemblies fault not BillHop) it will be able to be commented on by everyone.
