So basically, if Lee Fisher wants the job he’ll get it?

22 May 2008

That’s the impression that I was left with in reading today’s Blade:

The governor would not divulge who is on his list but said he would find it difficult not to appoint Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher if he wanted the job. Fisher also serves as development director, and Strickland says he expects him to remain in his current positions.

So, I headed over to the Cleveland Plain Dealer to see what context this was reported in since the Blade sources them:

Strickland said he expects Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher, a former attorney general who also serves as Strickland’s development director, to remain in his current posts. He said that Fisher would be difficult to replace as development director but indicated that if Fisher wanted the attorney general’s post it might be his for the asking.

“If Lee were to indicate to me that he would like to be attorney general, I can tell you it would be difficult for me not to enthusiastically appoint him to that,” Strickland said.

I guess the real question will be, does Lee Fisher want it?

Well, if he took it he would need to leave his other jobs, and I do not think that he wants to do that. Furthermore, hopefully he does not want it (I will say no more for obvious reasons).

    Thanks

He certainly wanted the job in the past. I would guess he’ll ask for it.

    No.

He wants higher office, like Ted’s job or US Senator. He is content staying out of the fire for now, building contacts and his resume and using the Lt Gov position as a spingboard. Why risk losing the AG race……2006 when he was just on a ticket aside, Fisher has proven he is anything but a sure thing state wide winner.
