On Mark Dann…to resign or not to resign…

04 May 2008

While as this Blade article points out elected Democrats are not joining Republicans in seeking Mr. Dann’s resignation, there has not been an absence of calls from the media for Dann to resign. Nor has the Ohio blogosphere remained silent on this, Eric has a petition demanding that Marc Dann resign.

Some of the Ohio editorial headlines:

Dann is a disgrace and should go

This has to be the end for Marc Dann

Dann should go

Dann must do what’s best for Ohio, not what he mistakenly thinks is best for himself

Not all of the editorials are demanding a resignation, his home town of Youngstown’s paper:

Dann acknowledges errors; we suggest a second chance

Then here in Toledo, the editorial on Dann, entitled Drunk with Power.

I think Dann’s wife should get to decide what to do with him.

I think Dann should resign. I base this belief on the fact that he campaigned as someone with integrity who would clean up state government, yet about all he has shown is an inability to keep his genitalia secured in his pants.

So far, only the Blade has not called for his resignation. After reading their editorial, I think the Blade places partisan politics ahead of personal responsibility. Dann should clean out his desk now.

Jim, the Youngstown Vindicator has not called for his resignation either, they have stated they believe he deserves a second chance.

He’s from Youngstown, so they’re backing their man.

Democrats just wanted to sweep Republicans out in 2006, and they didnt care with who. Maybe they should have taken a closer look.

Jim, I agree with you as to the possible reason why the Vindicator took that position, the Blade motivation is a bit harder to understand considering they have spent quite a bit of space page on one specific individual who has a much less important job than the Attorney General to try to get removed from her position.

Ben, there would be those out there who would state that is why they wanted Chandra to win…It appears they could have been right.

I for one voted for Chandra in the Democratic Primary of May 2006. Lets let the system work and not be a lynch mob. Spitzer removed himself from office so, again, lets let the system work.

It was amazing how the AG’s assistant’s (Gutierrez & Simpson) photos in Saturday’s Blade resembled mug shots. I hope those photos were not the ones used in the official “Welcome to the Ohio AG’s Office” brochure!

    that was amazing Joe.

Dann needs to determine for himself whether he can continue to be effective.

I was at his announcement here in Toledo when he decided to run for AG. He pledged to be the candidate with ethics, unlike Gov. Taft, Tom Noe, and others. I’m extraordinarily disappointed with A.G. Dann. He should resign. He ran his apartment like a fraternity house, how do you expect him to run his office? What’s worse is that I saw him with his family, his wife, and all of his children except one. I feel terribly for his wife and his children. This man’s ego got the best of him. He should resign.

If this were only about infidelity it would be a matter between Dann and his family. You can’t manage the AG office when you’re sleeping with your subordinates. He needs to go.

After reading this story in Sunday’s Blade, I was totally sick. I can not imagine the humiliation felt by the wives of Dann and Gutierrez. I also think the questionable hiring of some of the people in this office should come under fire. One woman involved had a DUI and various other charges in her background. I wonder what their resume looked like when they were hired for this job. All I can say is this fiasco is going to cost the already cash strapped tax payers of Ohio a lot of money. How can Dann not be booted out for his part in this? Those fired could file a lawsuit for wrongful termination based on Dann did the same inappropriate things and he still has his position. Another thing Strickland sure did act fast on the State Trooper Chappel skit incident. What is going on with Dann seem a lot worse than that.

What’s wrong with a Democrat AG having a frat house with women, beer and sex? It is not like he started a war for oil? Democrates just like their interns and their women when they get in power.

Stay in power Dann – we need more amusement in this great state.
