Keith Wilkowski Holds Commanding Lead In Likely 2009 Challenge To Carty Finkbeiner
Odesky & Associates poll finds former Lucas County Commissioner favored over incumbent Toledo mayor by a margin of 59.2%-13.5% in head-to-head match-up
Toledo, OH – The Wilkowski for Mayor Exploratory Committee today releases results of a poll showing former Lucas County Commissioner Keith Wilkowski would win a head-to-head race against incumbent Carty Finkbeiner by a margin of 59.2%-13.5% “if the election for Mayor of the City of Toledo were held tomorrow.” The survey of 300 likely Toledo voters was conducted earlier this month by Stanford H. Odesky & Associates and has a margin of error of +/-5.7%.
Significantly, the poll also found that only 15.9% of Toledo voters believe the city is “headed in the right direction” while 69% feel things “have gotten off on the wrong track.”
“Toledoans are hungry for change and they believe that Keith Wilkowski represents that change,” says Ben Krompak, a Toledo-based political consultant and Wilkowski supporter.
Wilkowski’s 45.7% lead is reflected in an initial head-to-head ballot question. It is not a result of respondents hearing positive or negative messaging on either candidate but rather a reflection of where voters stand based on the information they have today. After respondents received positive profiles of both candidates, Wilkowski builds on his lead, garnering 73.4% to Finkbeiner’s 11%, a margin of 62.4%.
Asked to identify major issues facing residents in Toledo today, an overwhelming majority of respondents (72.5%) expressed concerns related to the city’s economy. Additionally, 16.6% of respondents said road conditions were a major issue while 12.4% expressed concern over crime.
“Now more than ever, fundamental changes are needed to turn Toledo around,” says Wilkowski.
“Throughout my career, I have worked to bring people together to find innovative solutions to tough problems. As we move forward in this exploratory process, I look forward to sharing with Toledoans my vision for our city’s future.”
The son of the late State Representative Art Wilkowski, Keith Wilkowski has served as Lucas County Commissioner, as a member of the Toledo Board of Education, and as City of Toledo Law Director. Wilkowski previously ran for Mayor in 2005, finishing third behind Finkbeiner and then-Mayor Jack Ford in the September primary. A former Chairman of the Lucas County Democratic Party, Wilkowski currently serves as Toledo’s Co-Chairman of the Barack Obama for President campaign.
Well let’s hope Keith runs, because we already know how horrible Carty is. And Keith has the right experience for the job as well. I know UT students would support him.
April 24th, 2008 at 11:23 amWay to go Keith! You’ll be an excellent Mayor!
April 24th, 2008 at 11:26 amI can only imagine how wonderful of a community Toledo would have turned out to be had Keith, not Carty, won the election.
It sure is comforting, to me at least, that Keith is actually thinking about spanking that POS worthless example of a leader Toledo has in office now.
Go Keith GO!
April 24th, 2008 at 11:41 amCan we hold the election tomorrow? Please?
April 24th, 2008 at 12:10 pmAt a time when the Lucas County Dem’s finally seem to be emerging from the counter-productive A-Team B-Team stuff a run by Keith, a person who has stayed above that fray, offers a fresh start for a community desperate for change.
April 24th, 2008 at 12:40 pmBeacon of light or is this just too much to hope for?
April 24th, 2008 at 12:58 pmI have known Keith for many years. He is very capable and a VERY nice person. I wish him luck. Toledo would be fortunate to have him as Mayor.
April 24th, 2008 at 7:07 pmKeith will be my guest on Friday morning at 7a. We will talk about the poll, the mayor’s response which I have in front of me, and his possible run for mayor.
April 24th, 2008 at 8:15 pmI heard that Joseph Stalin, Jeffrey Dahmer and Charles Manson were running ahead of Finkbeiner in the Odesky poll as well.
April 25th, 2008 at 12:10 am*ahem*…ummm…also Felix the Cat…is….umm….ahead of Carty in the poll.
April 25th, 2008 at 6:22 amBut, yet, “Mr. Wilkowski has served in a variety of political and government roles, including as member of the Toledo Board of Education, 1983-1988; Lucas County commissioner 1988-1990; Toledo law director, 1990-1994, and chairman of the Lucas County Democratic Party, 1994-1997.”
All the baddies noted at one or another to be part of the problem in the city and area.
More of the same candidates with the same backings, is a winner, what with the comments about the entities posted.
People want change or more the same?
April 25th, 2008 at 9:55 amFinkbeiner is ahead of Atila the Hun, but it is within the margin of error.
