Seeing that makes me really angry at Helping Hands and the way they squander their resources on people who should be arrested, not helped while deserving people don’t get the assistance they need. Thank you for posting this excellent video.

And yet after meeting and talking and talking and shuffling of papers and shows of we are doing something the problem is still with us and the talking needs to end and the results need to be put on the table and if the leadership cannot do this then it is time for new leadership.

This is 2007 in the U.S. and here we are describing all the great things and still we cannot leaders to lead and help those that need help and let them return to their rightful place in society.

We have billions and billions for the war machine and yet we cannot find the help for those that need it.

    Dear anonymous,

I am not sure what your experiences were with Helping Hands. I am not sure why you think the people should be arrested. Feel free to share that with me personally or on this blog.

Maybe you are referring to people who HAD been arrested and served their time? Or just the poor that go there?

But I can tell you when I was homeless, I should have been arrested too. Man, I was stealing what ever I could to feed my habits.

Poor Foodtown! I think I stole so many cartons from them that I am the single reason they now have cartons in plexiglass fortresses. Plus tons of beer & wine. (I sure hope the statute of limitations is up, lol)

Anyway, Helping Hands has been providing helping hands to the very very very needy for many years. They do a good job, have good volunteers, and according to my homeless pals, pretty good food.

I never asked, but I don’t believe they get federal money and therefore not part of the problem I noted in the video.

But if I am in anyway wrong, please feel free to share your experiences.

    Ken

Ken, I have spent the last couple hours going over alot of your info, sorry I’m only jumping on board now family medical issues have kept me away….I want to begin by saying i aplaud you in your efforts! and beleive that your battle will be victorious. I fully agree new leadership to govern the situation is in dier need! I read the previous blogs and i want to fill you in on a couple things that kinda backs what your saying…….The V.H.C. behind my name stands for Victorian hilltop coalition I and others in the eastside started last spring to clean up our area (Starr to nevada to main to oak)(also known as the worst part of the eastside. )we have had wonderful results over the past summer and intend on even more next summer….anyway one of the things that we want to address is the helping hands, as home owners and business owners in the immediate and outer neighborhood of the church we have huge concerns….do to the lack of leadership ….a couple of examples ….drug deals on church property, as some of the people going to the kitchen walk through the neighborhood they steal from our homes, yards ,cars….and trade the stuff for drugs down at the kitchen , they loiter on our porches leaving behind all their litter which usually is wine bottles, crack pipes, used condoms ect… the director himself hangs out w/ the dope dealers…..now if your thinkin he is talking to them about a new way in life same thought i had till i saw more….(cannot say more on that on such a open forum). Some of the cars that come are from out of state…..some are lexus, cadilac, and my most favorite is when we catch them urinating or deficating down the side of my garage….. so i was wondering if maybe you could contact me and give me some pointers on how we can work to rectifie this situation,. Now i’m not sure if they are funded by the state or not but that shouldn’t matter , I know your a busy guy but if you could cotact lisa she can give you my #’s. (thankyou lisa) I really think we could only benifit from talking w/ eachother for a moment or two…thanks for your time…….GAIL

    Ken Says:

Hey Gail, I do understand. These kinds of issues all go back to accountability. The next step for you is because most agencies are accountable to a board of directors, they would be the next ones you should talk to. The directors are the ones ultimately responsible legally. So if you are not getting resolution on the director level, then the boards of directors are the next steps. I advise going in with a possible solution as well if you can. This goes really for ANY non profit in town, not just homeless services agencies. The Board of Directors are accountable to both funders and the community.

Lets chat right after the first of the year. Lisa, could you please email me her number. Thanks!

    Happy New Year All.
