University of Toledo Candidate Forum on steps of Student Union…
A beautiful day to be at the University Toledo, and thanks to Chad Quigley who offered to drive me I didn’t have to do the two TARTA bus shuffle to get to the steps of the University of Toledo’s Student Union building. It was a bit chilly for the candidates who were in the shade but for those of us in the sunshine it was fairly nice, and a nicely attended event with some students staying for the whole hour long forum and some only able to spend a few minutes in between classes to hear what the candidates who appeared had to say. Props/kudo’s to those who were able to attend today, Toledo Public School Board candidate Chris Myers, City Council District 2 candidate D. Michael Collins, City Council District 5 candidate Marty Skeldon, City Council District 5 candidate Tom Waniewski and City Council District 6 candidate Lindsay Webb.
If you ever wonder how dedicated I am to showing up for these types of events, you only have to look at this picture:
Certain daughters seemed to have borrowed my shoes, leaving me to borrow a pair of Aubrey’s…

It’s pathetic only one candidate for the school board showed up.
As a District 5 resident, I was glad both Marty Skeldon and Tom Waniewski were there. There is finally a Republican with something going for him – the Blade hasn’t tied him to Tom Noe yet and like his campaign slogan, he’s a fresh name. Maybe local Republicans will get someone who sticks to what he believes and doesn’t cave to the Mayor’s wishes.. if people vote for more than a last name.
October 30th, 2007 at 9:16 pmIt was during the day so it could have been hard for all of the candidates to attend. There was a card there for Cheryl Catlin so I don’t know what happened where she was not able to attend and I know that Lisa Sobecki had wanted to attend but had a car repair issue come up that was beyond her control. From what Lindsay Webb stated, Molly McHugh Branyan, the other candidate for District 2 had wanted to attend but was not able to.
I did not hear from any of the other candidates to know if they were planning on it though I did think that perhaps Jack Ford was going to attend as well. It would have been great if all of them had appeared, and as I stated above I give major kudos to all who did appear today but I also know how many candidate forums there have been so it’s not always going to be possible for all of them to show up for everything.
ps…it was good seeing you today!

October 30th, 2007 at 9:24 pmI enjoyed it..sick, I know
I am impressed with Chris Myers being so dedicated to consitantly putting his messege out there. No other candidate for anything Toledo has put in the sheer hours of attendance and dedication Myers has. That has to count for something!
The University is the heartbeat of this city, it was disrepectful to not come. Shame on the candidates for leaving the College in the lurch by not attending.
Those that did had plenty to say, and yeah, the cold kept it concise. It was some of the smae information and some new information. I like Collins, D-2 needs more help that I can give if they choose otherwise. I like Waniewski.. Skeldon just doesn’t do it for me. Luckily, I vote on neither, I have Ashford and Traynum…
Saddly, but not unexpected, Molly wasn’t there. Again, she misses an opportunity to explain her situation. Again, Collins.
A funny statement, Webb told all of us, She’s going to be around a while.. she’s not lacking that go getter spirit. Heck, she’s cruzin.
Lisa..as always, you’re good at your job!
October 30th, 2007 at 9:49 pmIt was good to see you too Lisa, and Chad too.
Glad your covering all this stuff.
October 30th, 2007 at 10:38 pmit does seem odd that they would not all show for this one. university campuses are usually a hot ticket to promote political ideas. especially when you are standing for education.
October 31st, 2007 at 9:34 am1 out of 7 school board candidates, 4 out of I think 10 Council candidates. But by golly they all want to represent us…LOL
