Tent City is this weekend…

29 Oct 2007

This information in via email:

With the veterans returning from Iraq as well as the individuals, families and children who will become homeless due to the foreclosures, we need all the help we can get.

Tent City has been working each year to get the homeless off the streets and into housing. We have been supported greatly by so many people including the City, County, businesses and groups. We are assisted by the Toledo Lucas County Homeless Board and Lucas County’s Veteran Service Commission.

November 2nd through the 4th, Tent City will rise again at the Civic Center Mall in Downtown Toledo.

If you need more information you can visit our website www.taaeh.com

Editorial note: I hope you visit the website and see what volunteer spots are still open as well as support this effort in any way you can. Miguel and I just volunteered to be part of the crew that serves dinner Saturday evening.

Lisa..thanks for this post. I am going through our clothes right now and am making a donation. I think everyone has some sweaters and other clothing that no longer fits or we have no real need for. Being homeless is among the worst situations in life. You can never really know the dispair without being there. A gift of time, clothing, food, or just being there is what we can do in the face of a growing and terrible issue in America. So often, we reach out past our shores with help, yet forget what’s wrong in our own back yard.

I encourage all Toledoans to spend 10 minutes going through your closets, attics and basements. Make a food and/or clothing donation. What we all tend to forget, We are blessed beyond what we know and but for the grace of God, there go I.

The 10 years I lived in Portland, homlessness was staggering. It’s not on us to judge the individual’s situation, it’s on us to help in whatever ways we can.
