Here at the debate
22 Oct 2007
Things are just getting started it appears to be a full house in the audience. Later tonight Fox Toledo will have the debate on their website, as soon as that is online I’ll be linking so that those of you who were not able to be here tonight can watch the Toledo Public School Board Candidates answer questions from Michael Miller, Laura Emerson and Karl Rundgren with Tom Watkins acting as Emcee.
Candidates attending today are Cheryl Catlin, Jack Ford, Ted Jobe, Harold Mosley, Chris Myers and Lisa Sobecki.

I was lucky enough to have a ticket provided me by Lisa and Miguel, so I sat centered in the back to take it all in. Real nice turn out and some interesting questions asked. The answers..well, errr, um, well, ohhh, um… That about sums it up.
3 of 6 are out of the running for me. 1 surprise, Mosley..he does now how to stand and send a message. He was the only one to stand and make a statement. It was mentioned that it was a hard choice with so many good candidates…huh?
There are some maybe’s..but nobody really hit the spotlight. All I can say is, they need to get their message together and they only have days to do it.
October 22nd, 2007 at 10:03 pmThanks for blogging it! It must be tough typing and listening. What a great way to multimedia debate where we can read/watch it on our own time.
October 22nd, 2007 at 11:50 pmargh! late….what a great way to “…to provide a multimedia…”
October 22nd, 2007 at 11:51 pmI made typo’s too Chris, so no worries, it’s a challenge to live blog but it’s a lot of fun. This time there were not as many comments here during the debate but over 500 people stopped by to read, so I hope just as many if not more take advantage of visiting Fox Toledo to watch the video.

October 23rd, 2007 at 12:01 amtypo’s are my signature..lol
October 23rd, 2007 at 6:51 amChad, you don’t hear too good. There was much more than, well, er, um . . . Moseley’s stand up impressed me as a typical police intimidation move. But, if that’s what you like, sobeit. There was at least one candidate whose answers seemed like script answers. I’m waiting for the Deveaux debate.
October 23rd, 2007 at 5:22 pmLee if you were referring to me, I was not myself, too much nerves and too much to think about. The red light on the camera is also like a one eyed cyclops
. Stop by the debate on Thursday, I am going to talk and not think. I think you will like it. Thanks for being there on Monday.
October 23rd, 2007 at 11:15 pmLee… I listened carefully and I summed my opinion on my blog. As for Mosley, it was only his effort to stand that impressed me with him. I feel that all candidates should stand up and deliver their open and closing statements.
IMO>>>> Ford was scripted. He also made a foolish move to plug Cosi and his remarks about Lopez making property taxes go down RE TPS..horse hooey!
If there were 3 I liked, and I use that term litely, it was Catlin, Lisa and Chris. Tho, sorry Chris..the nevers were a real problem and the aggression on your part not appropriate.
Nevers played a lot into my opinion and also the substance of the comments by all.
I do not have children, so my interets in the School Board are in this order…
The education of the children, Money management, TFT. I think that the majority of the Board is off the mark, by a mile. I do not see too many of the candidates being able to do anything about it based on their responses.
They are what they are, so we have to pick the best of the bunch. That isn’t going to be easy, very similar to the last mayoral vote.
October 24th, 2007 at 12:47 pmChris, I was not referring to you. I don’t know how anyone can say none of the participants did well. At least two of them did very well — in my opinion, that is.
October 24th, 2007 at 1:00 pmI will be at the Thursday debate. I anticipate it being a tough one. My choices are already made. Not from debate answers, but from what they have shown in their research and concern prior to this election.
Lee I look forward to seeing you on Thursday. I was disappointed in my performance on Monday so I was referring to myself and I only mentioned that because someone else told me I looked like I was thinking too much, which I was.
Chad, I can understand how some may think that asking Jack Ford to explain why he did not stand up for citizens to speak first could be seen as aggression. The new speaking policy did start when he got on the board and he did have a chance to change it at the last board meeting, but he passed and a good number of citizens had to wait until the end to talk. But if I had the opportunity to implement some change like he does, I would be taking concrete steps of not only demanding citizens to go first but to provide multiple ways of communicating. The good thing is that many people are saying we need radical change, now it is time to find out who actually means it. As you know, talk and action are two different things
.
Will you be there on Thursday? I would get there a bit early. I think it will be packed. Thanks for stopping by on Monday.
