Latta and Buehrer have “Noe” connections…

09 Oct 2007

First over on the Daily Bellwether, Bill discovers some information on donations from Tom Noe to Republican State Sen. Steve Buehrer. Not to be outdone, Matthew over at Right Angle Blog, who appears to be a Buehrer supporter, pens a post about a Noe connection to the wife of Republican State Representative Robert Latta.

Then, Scott Pullins has been retained by the Latta Campaign to file an election complaint against the Buehrer Campaign, I saw this first on the news tonight on Fox Toledo, you can read the complaint in full on Scott’s blog, The Pullins Report.

While all of this is going on, we also learned today from a comment left on a an earlier thread that Republican Fred Pieper has launched his website. He’s also in the running for the 5th District seat though I can’t help but wonder with Latta and Buehrer battling if that will help or hurt his chances in the special primary.

A Noe connection? This might be very far fetched but, since those guys are all republicans isn’t it possible that they would attend the same functions and know each other? I shook Noe’s hand when I met Zell Miller downtown a few years back…am I now “Noe connected”?
These guys should be comparing records and showing public service resume’s rather than looking for a ball of mud to sling.

Sepp, I believe how it works is only if you took money from him (smile). I think you are probably right that many Republicans got donations from Tom Noe. I wonder how many years the “Noe factor” will work…personally I think it’s probably already become a non-issue for most.

Well, Tom Waniewski was in business with Tom Noe (an internet business) but I don’t think we need to tar and feather him for that. We can’t automatically assume the worst about people who crossed paths with the Noes over the years. Tom W. seems about as far from Tom N. as one can get when it comes to character.

Hopefully Strippergate will have this long a shelf life.

I could be wrong, but I think the value of using Noe as a way to campaign against someone is pretty much over, yet what I found interesting in this scenario is the response on RAB was to point out the Noe connection of another candidate.

Since yesterday, the Club for Growth has responded to the Latta complaint filed by Scott Pullins.

Fakename (cute choice) – that’s a valid point though the fact that there were convictions in the Noe case and the dollar amount involved makes the two a bit different. Have things here locally changed to where the mentality behind the whole creation of the Strippergate saga no longer exists is a valid question.

I think that Mr. Noe had alot of connections and many people placed a very misplaced trust in him. This man hurt alot of people.

Although I believe if I was a candidate or a politician I would return any money I could find that came from him.

    Just a matter of principal.

Lets not forget that we have a man in our own city running for Judge that may have been Tom Noe’s closest ally outside of Bob Taft, Larry Kaczala. Beside the thousands that Tom and Bernie dumped into his own campagins, Kaczala made sure he paid them back even after all of the corruption was made public, by lowering their property values considerabley while the rest of Lucas County’s taxes went through the roof.

    Kaczala 4 Judge = Oxymoron.

Scott Pullins has responded in response to the Club for Growth response, here.

    It’s almost like a tennis match…

    Clayton, I’m curious.

Why is it today being the first day I’ve heard that claim that Larry Kaczala ethically violated his position to show favoritism towards Tom Noe by creating an extensive property tax break in appreciation of Noe’s extensive and profitable fundraising by lowering the value of which home?

I certainly can hope Tom is still enduring the biggest nightmare of his life and lives in fear with each breath he takes.

Tom should have got life, IMHO.

Brian, I’ve heard that claim made before.

I recall a Blade article about the tax reduction. I don’t know that it was payback for anything, but it was a hefty reduction as I recall.

Here’s a link to a Blade story about the reduction the Noes got:

    Scott Pullins Says:

Ohio Elections Commission, by a 3-0 vote, found probable cause that a violation has occurred. A full hearing will likely be held on October 18.
