Agricultural Easement Purchase Program & The Black Swamp Conservancy

19 Aug 2007

If you are like me, after you read the article in the Blade, State buying land to deter urban crawl, you probably had more questions about this program and about who the Black Swamp Conservancy group is.

Some interesting information about the Agricultural Easement Purchase Program can be found on their website, which is a part of the www.ohioagriculture.gov site. You can find information such as:

Farmland owners cannot apply for the Program directly. Rather, county commissioners, township trustees, municipal councils, Soil and Water Conservation Districts and land trusts must apply on behalf of farmland owners and submit a completed application to the Office of Farmland Preservation by the announced deadline.

The Black Swamp Conservancy has a very informative website on what their mission is and quite a bit of information as to their history and who they are.

Sounds like to me that the farmers will have to pay the campaign contribution to the elected officials in order for them to apply the program. That is a real stinker all around IMHO.
