Local artist’s Christmas Decorations to be on White House Christmas Tree

CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS DECORATED BY LOCAL FOLK ARTIST TO BE DISPLAYED ON WHITE HOUSE TREE.
Baba (Magdelene) Ujvagi, a Hungarian folk artist from the Birmingham neighborhood of Toledo has been asked by the White House to design and decorate a series of Christmas ornaments for this years holiday displays through the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, Washington D.C.

A number of ethnic community artists are participating in the project. Ms Ujvagi received several large ornaments to decorate.
In the communications from the White House the artists were asked “to decorate the Christmas ornaments paying tribute to a noteworthy and inspiring building or site with historical significance or cultural importance.”
The landmarks and culturally important locations that the artist Baba Ujvagi selected included:
· Toledo Veterans Glass City Skyway Bridge
The ornament included views of the bridge as well as of the Toledo Museum of Art, downtown Toledo, and the Mud hens and City of Toledo logos.
· Ellis Island
Depictions of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, American flags and pictures of Hungarian immigrants and a post card dated 1908.
· Statue of Louis Kossuth
Hungarian Revolutionary hero, whose bust is displayed in the US Capital, as well as news clippings of the artist Csaba Kur, views of the Capital and red, white and green ribbons separating the globe into four sections.
· Commemoration of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and immigration to America
Depiction of the Gloria Victus statue in memory of 1956 in San Francisco and the Liberty Square Memorial in Boston, as well as additional items including the Hungarian crest, flag and dramatic posters.
The artist and family members will be touring the White House on Thursday, December 17th. Photographs of the artist and ornaments are attached.
