Elm Street Warehouse connections pondered and updated with discovery

13 Nov 2009

Yesterday I pointed out a link to a news brief type story from WTOL that stated there was going to be a hearing yesterday concerning the Elm Street Warehouse. As an update to that story, some links to additional media coverage, what I found interesting was that it’s being reported, FOX Toledo as an example, that the owner’s can’t be found.

Using information from Areis, the property at 1502/1510 Elm Street is listed owned by Select Properties Group, Et Al with an address of 7350 South Tamiami Trail in Sarasota, Florida. A company that had the same main address, using the name “Select Properties of Sarasota” appears to still be in existence, and they market a rather nice project, Villa Bellagio, the description:

Understated elegance is beautifully conveyed in this Italian Villa located on a premium 2/3-acre site overlooking the 3rd tee of the legendary TPC golf course. Exquisite architectural details and a flowing floor plan accent the easy livability of Villa Bellagio, a home that presents an olde world elegance with new world allure, and includes whispers of Mediterranean and Venetian influences. In its 5,700 square feet of air-conditioned space plus 2,400 square feet of outdoor entertaining area, this grand estate home offers the finest in finishes, state-of-the-art construction, technology and automation. It is a symphony of awe-inspiring views, sublime privacy, impeccable design and lavish amenities. The close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico allows ocean breezes to help the course breathe like a fine bottle of Bordeaux.

Offered at $3,495,000

I contacted the person listed for Select Properties of Sarasota, I’ll update if there is a response. WTVG has coverage of this story and it does not appear WTOL has updated their story from yesterday. At this point, GCJ appears to be the first one to have reported where the previous owners may be located.

Updated, Select Properties of Sarasota has stated they are not associated with Select Properties Group and do not operate from the same address. Select Properties of Sarasota has also moved to a new location on South Tamiami. The mystery continues…

Second update: The owner of Select Properties of Sarasota solved the address mystery. The “real” Select Properties of Sarasota has been in business for 20 years, they were located next to a mail box facility where a gentleman by the name of Harold Miller, had mail directed to for a business he created named, “Select Properties Group” — they were not affiliated with him, and the mail from that business stopped being collected about six months ago. Select Properties Group appears to have their company dissolved in 2008 for non-filing. I was able to find this on Harold Miller who is an attorney.

This means, the next focus is on finding Mr. Harold Miller, perhaps he’ll be able to explain why he picked such a similar name to a company and mailing address location to a firm that had been in business for 20 years and appears to have a very different reputation than the experience Toledo has had with Select Properties Group.

Third update: Harold Miller is associated with Frederick Clark, who is listed as connected to several companies in Florida, one of which is listed as “Select Properties Group” the following companies are listed as still active connected to Clark and/or Miller:

Freeport Holdings, Inc.
Incorporated by James A Howze, Freeport Holdings, Inc. is located at 1366 Whitfield Ave Sarasota, FL 34243. Freeport Holdings, Inc. was incorporated on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 in the State of FL and is currently active. James A Howze represents Freeport Holdings, Inc. as their registered agent.

Here’s where it gets really interesting:

The Arts Center of Toledo, LLC
Incorporated by Frederick Clark, Harold O Miller, The Arts Center of Toledo, LLC is located at 333 Tamiami Trl S Ste 283 Venice, FL 34285. The Arts Center of Toledo, LLC was incorporated on Friday, December 05, 2003 in the State of FL and is currently not active. Harold O Miller represents The Arts Center of Toledo, LLC as their registered agent.

That’s the name of the company that sold the Elm Street property to Select Properties Group for $860,000.00 on 8/16/2006. The address listed 333 Tamiami is also the address listed for the National Heritage Foundation, FBO The Sweetwater Foundation, etal which was given the Elm Street property from Harold Frutiger and Deborah Rosetto, which was then sold for $230,000 in December of 2003.

Harold Miller is listed on the Florida State Bar Association page, listed as an attorney in Good Standing – a current address/phone and email are listed for him. Update 5 when I hear back from him…

The city must not be working very hard to locate the owner of the property. You would think that someone in the city would be pushing for the owner to do something with the property. Isn’t that one of Carty’s pet projects to get property owners to take care of their property? I don’t understand why the city is responsible for putting up the bars.

Well, it appears complicated, but had they contacted Select Properties of Sarasota the way I did? They would have learned what I’ve been discovering the past few moments. Harold Miller is involved in several companies that are still active, so it appears he could be found.

I use to work in that building in the 1990s when it was a janitorial supply company.

The media crown looks like it fits you more and more each day as you continue to make my case.

Very good follow up on the “who’s on third” ownership saga on the Elm Street Warehouse. Are there any other transactions listed in the Toledo books for Harold Miller, and what is his connection to Toledo?

For more information on the current activities of the National Heritage Foundation (owned by the HOUK family) and their shady salesmen feel free to drop me a line. By the way the NHF declared bankruptcy Jan. 2009.
