FOX Toledo follows the Marina District money…
If you didn’t watch last night, the video and the print story is online, FOX Toledo tracks the money for project. FOX Toledo has been the only news station that has consistently reported on the Marina District and the fact that the $3.6 million check that was due on July 30th, with only one 30 day extension, that has passed, has never been received. Which means the deal should be off and it would have to be re-approved by Council, though some in the Mayor’s administration have felt there was a way around the actual legalities.
It’s something we’ve followed here as well, and will continue to…
i suspect dillin breathed a deep sigh of relief that bell won the mayors race – the incoming administration is likely to be with dillin. if wilkowski had won, it could well have resulted in lawsuits from dillin trying to assert control over the land (eventually) and the administration saying missed deadlines voided the deal.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:50 amThe missed deadlines did void the deal, what if anything will be done about it is going to be interesting to follow.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:52 amlanguage of deal from August 7th post on this topic.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:59 amThis project shows the failure of city council.
November 9th, 2009 at 12:12 pmThis project should be abandoned, the land sold for whatever we can get, cut our losses, and get out before it costs us more money.
This has been a boondoggle from the beginning.
Whenever I hear about the Marina District it always makes me think of the Monorail episode of the Simpsons. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEZjzsnPhnw
What was the name of the original snake-oil salesman who sold us this terrible idea over a decade ago? I wonder how the development in Pittsburgh is doing? You know, the one the Marina District was modeled after. By the way, what do we have in common with Pittsburgh?
November 9th, 2009 at 12:59 pmLR – if both parties proceed as though the K has not been violated/terminated and is still in force, then is it really voided. why would anyone talk to dillin now because he technically is no longer involved? right?! yet they do.
mikeya – in what way do you see council at fault? i’m not saying i disagree but i think council has gone out of its way to try to accomodate mayor/dillin – which to me was its failure… but you may mean something else.
November 9th, 2009 at 1:02 pmNo I totally agree with your assessment zimmy.
Council has failed in accountability of the Marina district and the Steam Plant.
In both cases they took on grand projects and didn’t hold up realistic goals – both temporary and permanent.
November 9th, 2009 at 1:13 pmThe Steam Plant and the Marina District were two project that were doomed to fail. There is no market for either of the projects at the present time. City Government does not understand that the market has to exist first.
That’s why the ballpark has been a success.
November 9th, 2009 at 1:50 pmMove the casino from Miami Street near Rossford to the Marina District.
November 9th, 2009 at 7:36 pmThey can’t Jim, unless you want to have another constitutional ballot issue changing the location, that was one of the concerns by some of those (like me) opposed to Issue 3, the location was the one set by voters, it can’t be changed without going through the process all over again.
November 9th, 2009 at 7:39 pmThat’s it exactly. It’s not that they are bad ideas….it’s just terrible timing.
