Ohio Legislative Black Caucus also endorses Issue 2
Fresh on the heels of endorsing Issue 3, this in via email from the office of State Representative Sandra Williams:
Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Endorse Issue 2
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus (OLBC) announced its endorsement for the Yes for Issue 2 Campaign. Since its founding in 1967, the OLBC has promoted minority-owned businesses in every economic sector in the state of Ohio. Issue 2 will not only help to sustain African American owned farms but all of Ohio’s family farms for generations to come.
“The OLBC is proud to endorse Issue 2,” said Rep. Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland), President of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus. “The OLBC has a history of promoting public policy initiatives that will help all Ohioans build a better future. Issue 2 will maintain the viability of Ohio’s agriculture by reinforcing consumer confidence in Ohio-raised food.”
If passed, Issue 2 will create the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board (Board). With the creation of this Board, it will ensure that Ohioans are making decisions about livestock and poultry care in their state. “Issue 2 is about making sure we have safe, local, affordable milk, meat and eggs for our families,” said Rep. Carlton Weddington (D-Columbus).
The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus consists of seventeen (17) African American Legislators. The Mission of the OLBC is to promote, foster and sponsor education, civic and political activities throughout the state of Ohio. OLBC was established to recognize and address the hopes, aspirations and needs of African Americans in Ohio.
This is the one of the reasons I oppose ISSUE 2; non-farmers supporting something they know nothing about. We at the junction we are because of agriculture regulation imposed by Ohio Republicans, which led to the Big Agro dominance and poor sanitation and growing methods.
This is a private property issue. This is about the consumers right to buy food they want. More importantly this is state constitutional issue; we are putting an unelected board above the Ohio Constitution, which means above the people.
It is interesting though that the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus went against the main liberal agenda, who are backed by HSUS and PETA.

October 26th, 2009 at 1:59 pmIssue 2 will maintain the status quo. That is best for all of us. The Black caucus sees that this type of measure is needed to prevent “HSUS and PETA” from winning. Their aim, along with the other progressives is to make livestock farming so expensive that folks won’t be able to afford meat. Let em try and take my steak. Vote yes. Stop the control freaks.
