As most of you know, I get emails from time to time from people that prefer to comment to me directly, especially if it’s on a topic I have not yet blogged about. I was given permission to share this email in full:
I was just reading this story on WTOL
This is probably the dumbest [...]

This is not to suggest that I think that the perceived definition of a “natural born citizen” would not include a child born to parents who are United States citizens stationed on a Military Base. It is however to suggest that it’s contradictory as it’s written in McCain asks lawyer to study ‘natural-born’ citizen [...]

As expected earlier in the week and promoted on their website ever since, the Blade endorsed Barack Obama for the primary. Yet today this piece by Marilou Johanek, Obama must face political reality before November caught my attention.
Part of the reason is she expresses some of the same feelings I have [...]

My first reaction was “wow”, that would be a higher percentage than normal if the predictions made by the Secretary of State as reported in the Blade, 52 percent of Ohio voters to participate in primary end up being the number.
In 2004 – 32.84% was the turnout with 7,204,856 registered voters, 2,365,969 voted in the [...]

Fox Toledo has created a page with all of the links to their extended video coverage that you can visit here. The most recent visit by Caroline Kennedy is recorded there as well and that will be the place you want to visit in the days to come as it will be updated. [...]

That’s the title for tomorrow’s “Pressing Issues” series by the Press Club of Toledo, and it’s also where I’ll be tomorrow reunited with one of my favorite local bloggers, History Mike.
With the two of us together, it’s bound to be a great seminar…

As the case docket reads…for Case Number CI -200802348-000 – SHANAHAN KAREN ON BEHALF OF HERSELF & OTHER SIMILARLY SITUATED TAX PAYERS
What does this mean? In the end, if the City were to lose, the possibility that the over 4 million dollars collected by the garbage fee could have to be refunded. Considering how [...]

After getting several phone calls this morning, where I was told yesterday’s Toledo Blade contained an ad by the Toledo Police Department related to the 3/4 Income Tax levy with the disclaimer stating:
Paid Public Service Announcement by
Toledo Police Department – Michael J. Navarre,
Chief of Police
And today’s Blade had a similar public service announcement done by [...]

Breaking news story from the Toledo Free Press that Brian Schwartz has hired legal representation in relation to his being suspended for 15 days without pay for unprofessional conduct and other possible incidents of his rights being violated by both Mayor Carty Finkbeiner and Chief of Staff Bob Reinbolt. He’s hired local attorney R. [...]

Those who make up the Hildo sharpen their pens to verbally chastise quite a few political and public figures on a regular basis and this week’s piece The unbearable whiteness of being does that. As in most of the pieces those who make up the Hildo create, there is some truth to what [...]

As a general principal I support the idea of making government more accessible to constituents. Yet in discovering this news:
BOWLING GREEN – U.S. Rep. Bob Latta (R., Bowling Green), who was elected to Congress in a special election last year, announced yesterday the opening of several district offices in the 5th District.
Constituents can reach [...]

I can’t claim to understand why they are going against past practice, which was to weed out some of the applicants, but the Toledo Public School Board announced last night that they would be interviewing all 14 candidates.
The last time, ten applicants applied and only five moved on to the actual interview process.

I realize that the Blade does not have the space to cover City Council the way I can do here on the blog, I also realize that the reporter that covered yesterday’s City Council meeting is not the regular “city beat” reporter. That said, if you read today’s Blade article, Council assumes control of [...]

I did watch the debate tonight, I taped it but have not had the time to jot down thoughts, I was finishing up the post for tonight’s City Council meeting. However, did you watch? If so, here’s your chance to share who you thought won, lost, points made that impacted you, topics you [...]

I am not going to cover all of the votes today, only the ones that involved discussion or are issues that I think might be of special interest and considering this was a very long council meeting with quite a few items that involved discussion, it would have been a real novel had I covered [...]

You often hear about the snowball effect, but in this case it’s the “Snowman effect” taking place in Point Place today. Ryan Webb and Blair Dorrell are on a mission to build snowmen today holding signs in support of the 3/4% income tax renewal, also known as Issue One.
Their first creation, that is [...]

Roberta de Boer also attended both the Clinton rally on Friday and the Obama rally on Sunday, she has shared part of her impressions in her column that came out today, For Dems, image may mold winner. I recommend heading over and reading her thoughts, and how she compared the two.
She asks a question [...]

Yesterday on WTVG the first segment of Conklin & Company could be called, “Three John’s hoping for money”. Superintendents from Anthony Wayne, Toledo Public and Oregon Public schools were on and ironically all of them have the same first name. What was most interesting to me was the differences in the report cards [...]

When you read the recent coverage that the Blade has had on both candidates and then read Obama cites ‘call to action’; change demands sacrifice, senator tells Blade panel, it seems apparent that the Blade will endorse Barack Obama.
At least those of us waiting at Savage Hall know what the slight delay in [...]

Having had the opportunity to hear both Democratic presidential candidates speak this weekend, my immediate impression after hearing Hillary Clinton on Friday and then Barack Obama today was…”Omg…there is very little difference in their platforms.” Not to pick on Mark but to use Mark’s question the other day on a Clinton issue related to: [...]

This week’s cover story of the Toledo Free Press focuses on Libbey basketball player William Buford who has been selected for the 2008 McDonald’s All-American game. It’s a great article about Buford and the Libbey community. While I was a Bowsher Rebel, both of my parents were Libbey Cowboys, unlike Obama and his [...]

This week’s Sojourner’s Truth has some thought provoking articles, two of which I’m focusing on in a post I’m working on so I’m not mentioning them here, but former Mayor Jack Ford has some reflections in his My View column as to what he calls, “experiences in making modest history.” Many of you [...]

No, I’m not going to shock any of you by stating I changed my mind about where my vote is leaning, that said, I’m glad I went to the Obama rally today. I’m not going to compare the events here, I’ll do that in a separate post. We got to Savage Hall just [...]
