Milan community congratulated by Kaptur on Edison selected for Statuary Hall – Updated with Latta
This in via e-mail from the office of U.S. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur and updated to include a release sent out by U.S. Congressman Bob Latta:
Kaptur Congratulates the Milan Community After Edison Wins Voting to Represent Ohio
World-Famous Inventor to Join President Garfield In Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol
U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (OH-9) today welcomed the announcement that Thomas Alva Edison has won a statewide ballot to be Ohio’s new representative in the Statuary Hall Collection in the U.S. Capitol.
“This is truly a victory for the Milan community,” said Kaptur, who attended a rally on the town square in September 2009 to support the pro-Edison campaign.
“The grassroots campaign on behalf of Thomas Edison shows what a small group of committed people can accomplish by working together.
“Coincidentally, Edison is also on the cover of Time Magazine’s history issue, which credits him not only for his great inventions but helping ‘create the American way of innovation.’
“How appropriate that Milan’s favorite son would now represent the entire state in the Capitol! His inventions symbolize the spirit of innovation that made Ohio a great state and will lead Ohio back to greatness.
“It’s a great day for Milan and for the entire state.”
Edison received 12,132 votes in balloting conducted by the Ohio Historical Society. The Wright Brothers finished second, with 10,895 votes, following by Republican Congressman William McCulloch (3,569), who was instrumental in passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
A statue of Edison will replace that of William Allen, a former governor and congressman who opposed the Civil War and supported segregation.
Ohio’s other statue in Statuary Hall depicts President James A. Garfield.
Rep. Latta Statement on Edison Statue Selection
BOWLING GREEN- Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) made the following statement upon Thomas Alva Edison being selected in a statewide vote as one of the individuals who should represent Ohio in the National Statuary Hall in the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.
“Over 37,000 Ohioans voted in this historic project and I am pleased that Thomas Edison, famous inventor who undoubtedly left his mark on history and shaped the future of our great nation, was selected to represent Ohio in the United States Capitol. This son of Milan, Ohio is a fitting symbol to display the innovative and industrious legacy of the Buckeye State and its contributions to our nation’s achievements.”
The vote for who would represent Ohio in Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol Building was conducted at museums and other sites across the state, in addition to U.S. mail and email, under the supervision of the Ohio Historical Society. Upon final recommendation to the Ohio General Assembly by a legislative panel, the approved statue will accompany a second representation of an Ohio native currently in Statuary Hall, James Garfield, the 20th President of the United States.
“It’s a great day for Milan and for the entire state.” Marcy Kaptur on hearing about a statue of Edison to be erected.
Yes…that would be right up there Marcy for your accomplishments after 28 years in Washington. Woweeeee and yessssiree. A definite highlight for you.
AS USUAL GSJ supplies the most pertinent and essential news regarding Kaptur that’s happened in the past few days for district 9.
July 8th, 2010 at 12:54 amDB – it’s a media release, I don’t control what’s sent, merely share it when it’s sent to me. If Latta or any other elected republican sends out a release on on this? It’d be posted…
AS USUAL you try to make something of nothing.

July 8th, 2010 at 9:05 amAs the most recent update shows, a release was sent out by Congressman Latta’s office and it’s been included. I look forward to your similar commentary on his release DB.

July 8th, 2010 at 4:11 pmSo you are saying if a nondemocrat, nonkaptur press release is sent to you, you will post it on your blog?
Please answer so I know if I am INDEED making something out of nothing!
I’m surprised you don’t consider a skirting of the law by our representative, dummy storefronts, and campaign donors getting special treatment more significant than a statue. Especially coming from someone who promotes herself as someone of the regular folk
Do you only use press releases as your topics?
July 8th, 2010 at 4:13 pmI think if you bother to read above you’ll see the answer to your question and considering how long you have been reading this blog, it’s quite clear I include releases from Republicans when they are sent to me. I’ve also included releases from independents, greens, etc. Nor do I just share releases.
July 8th, 2010 at 4:17 pmCuing the music while you figure out how to answer your own question as to why you are “INDEED making something out of nothing.”

July 8th, 2010 at 4:27 pmLisa–I’m somewhat surprised as someone who prides themselves on researching various topics that come up; someone with an investigative bent, that you don’t find the national story of dummy storefronts, campaign donors getting big time special favors, the circumventing the law on EARMARKS and more that will come out. She sounds like one of those…those—oh yes: those Wall Street Bankers that get all of those special favors from their donors.
July 8th, 2010 at 4:35 pmI know DB, rather than admit you are wrong and you made false accusations you’d prefer to try to turn this around. However, read the post title, it’s about Kaptur and then Latta both sending out releases on Edison being selected for Statuary Hall.
That’s the topic of this thread…not anything else no matter how you try to spin it.
July 8th, 2010 at 4:42 pmAnd now I will eagerly await how you answer my last post!
Sorry..didn’t click on your music link yet. And for mine, try Dave Brubeck Quartet Take Five 1961:

July 8th, 2010 at 4:51 pmLet me explain. The point is— you are talking about a statue!! Of all that’s gone on with Kaptur in past 72 hours, you pick a statue.
Get my point?? SAME point as my first post—YOU are spinning/ignoring. Keep drinking your kool aid.
July 8th, 2010 at 4:55 pmDBforever:
Kinda like Lisa’s kool aid, at least it has a balanced flavor that goes with everything.
July 9th, 2010 at 8:46 amLOL…deep and profound.
I always preferred Freckle Face Strawberry flavor! That goes with red AND white meat. Very versatile.
