Governor Statement on Denial of Federal Assistance for Storm-damaged Northwest Ohio
Columbus, OH – Ohio Governor Ted Strickland today released the following statement on the denial of assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the areas of Northwest Ohio affected by a damaging tornado that occurred on June 5 and 6.
“I am disappointed that Ohio did not receive assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. While we knew when we applied that there was no guarantee the region would meet the technical requirements to qualify for this aid, we wanted to pursue every option to help these communities recover as quickly as possible.
“We are currently pursuing other federal programs that may be able to offer assistance to Ohio, such as the SBA loan program. The state also committed resources to provide relief as the region rebuilds. We will continue to do everything in our power to help those Ohioans whose lives were impacted by this tornado.”
Earlier this month the state released more than $670,000 in funds to provide relief to the storm-damaged areas.
