Mayor Bell to be inducted into BGCA Alumni Hall of Fame
Mayor Michael P. Bell will be inducted into Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s (BGCA) prestigious Alumni Hall of Fame (AHOF) this evening at a ceremony being held at the Marriott Marquis in New York City. The induction ceremony is a part of their national conference.
AHOF honors Club alumni who have used their experience to achieve goals and become leaders in their community. As a child, Bell was a member of the Toledo Boys & Girls Club, attending summer camp and participating in sporting activities. He now serves as a lifetime trustee of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo.
The Boys & Girls Clubs has been an integral part of Toledo history for more than 118 years. There are currently four units of the Boys & Girls Clubs located in Toledo. The Clubs are open to any child between the ages of 6 to 18 and currently serve more than 6,000 young people through membership and community outreach. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo is a non-profit organization funded by the United Way of Greater Toledo as well as through private donations and charitable contributions.
The Club offers programs in the arts, sports and fitness, social skills, character development and leadership development, education and career development, and resident camping, and seek to enable young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
“I have warm memories of my experiences at the Boys & Girls Club and the leadership and problem solving skills I learned there helped prepare me to be a leader as an adult,” said Mayor Bell. “It’s an honor to join these fellow alumni in providing a positive example for future generations of Club members.”
As a Hall of Fame inductee, Mayor Bell will join fellow Toledoan Jamie Farr, as well as the likes of former President Bill Clinton, actor Denzel Washington, numerous Olympians, and many more public servants who are already members of the Alumni Hall of Fame.
He will be joined at the event by his parents, Norman and Ora, as well as fellow Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo representatives Dave and Lisa Wehrmeister, Don and Darla Harbaugh, and Jim and Chris Wade.
