Honoring Robert Brundage and local volunteers…Meeting April 1…

Committee forming meeting for Dr. Robert Brundage and Volunteers Day.
The informal meetings in the past to discuss ways in which the BCR and other diversity and environmental organizations could unite to honor the memory of Dr. Robert Brundage on the first anniversary of his unfortunate and untimely death has now crystallized into a full fledged day to honor him and all other individuals that volunteer their time and efforts, as he did, in making Toledo a better place. Dr. Bob was involved in many community, environmental and racial harmony endeavors that continue to inspire and bring out the best in humanity today.
In a meeting at the United Way on volunteering on Tuesday March 23rd, it was suggested that we include the acknowledgment of all volunteers that give of their time and effort. It was noted by Sister Virginia Welsh of the Padua Center, that when you estimate the value of volunteer work based on a wage of merely $20 -22 per hour, it is calculated that volunteers in her program contribute $50,000 dollars worth of volunteer work. Multiply that by the thousands of volunteers in the city of Toledo and the value in dollars is enormous. This celebration will be our way of saying thank you to the legions of volunteers throughout the area.
The event is being planned thanks to the graciousness of the Botanical Gardens in August.
With this thought in mind the Board of Community Relations at it’s monthly board meeting on March 25th has proposed that we not only honor Dr. Brundage, but that the day also celebrates and acknowledges all volunteers in the city and surrounding area.
We are asking all volunteer organizations in the area to join us in this tribute to Dr. Bob and to all others that so graciously and selflessly volunteer their time and effort.
Please send a representative from your volunteer organization in order to share your ideas on how this event can become a success.
