What just happened to Toledo Talk is senseless…

I headed over to Toledo Talk this morning as I do almost every day to see what was being talked about and I read this post which states someone hacked into Toledo Talk and was posting as other people as well as changing profiles.
Why someone would feel it necessary to spend that much time trying to mess with people doesn’t make any sense to me. If the person had some type of an issue with Toledo Talk, they could have easily created their own forum or their own blog.
Hopefully whoever it was that felt this was necessary will end up being caught…
Just another example of a pathetic person with nothing else to do in life but create annoyances for people they do not know. Technology is great, but some of the things that come with it are the pits! People with that kind of knowledge need to find a way to put it to good use!
December 30th, 2006 at 12:19 pmI almost think those who commit computer fraud/identity theft should get the death penalty. This, in my opinion, is the lowest form of crime. At least when somebody robs or murders you, they have to look you in the face. Whoever did this should realize that he or she is the lowest form of life.
December 30th, 2006 at 2:34 pmIt is pathetic that someone feels they have to do such a thing. But…it happens! ToledoTalk has become a daily staple of mine. I rely on it a great deal as many other people do (even those who dont post). Being that it has become so “in demand” and part of a regular routine for so many, I wish the administrator of the site would please spend a little more time, expend a little more effort to bring it back up ASAP. If the site has outgrown the abilities of JR to maintain it, then may I suggest he find a “staff” of trusted individuals to help him in his administration duties. To have the site down for a extended period of time as it is now is really unacceptable.
January 2nd, 2007 at 12:30 pmJB, Toledo Talk was a regular stopping place for me too, but it is JR’s site alone and he is the one who was paying for the site. He’s probably frustrated and rightfully so that someone would hack into the site the way they did, while I can’t speak for JR, I do know he is more than capable of maintaining the site, he’s probably questioning to himself if it’s worth the time and energy he’s invested given what just happened. I’ve been on boards in the past that went thru similar attacks and have seen more than one situation where the board owner decided it just wasn’t worth the hassle. I hope that doesn’t happen with Toledo Talk because I feel it is a very important resource for our community but I know how disgusted I feel in trying to keep this site as easy to comment to as possible yet having to deal with all of the stupid spammers to the point that I had to add “sex” and “tits” to words that automatically hold a post in moderation.

I apologize to JR if my previous post offended him an any way. It was not a slam against his technical abilities to manage a website. I know he is very capable in this department has has done a tremendous job thus far. He should be commended for it.
I simply mean that “maybe” the site has outgrown the capacities of one person to maintain it. It’s akin to a shop owner closing down the store because he has more customers then checkout registers or staff to run them. While he was able to do everything, (i.e. the books, stock the shelves, run the register and maintain the inventory) when he first opened his store, business demands that he hire on staff to keep it running at a level which is acceptable by his customers or fear going out-of-business.
While I understand that it is JR’s site, bought and paid for by him, he is only one person. The store has grown expedientaly and now may be time to consider additional staff to help him maintain it. I am not suggesting that he hire paid employees but with the sites reputation I am sure he may be able to find trustworthy individuals to assist him in his duties on a voulentary basis. Of course he would always be the primary admin and his word would be final.
I just hate the thought that such a popular site may be in a state of demise because not enough time can be spent maintaining it.

I guess we will just have to wait to see what happens next as far as would he even want anyone else to assist and if so who would offer. I still keep checking the site from time to time to see if it’s back in action.

Things are in development as we speak. If everything goes well, there should be an announcement on ToledoTalk in a couple of days. Don’t worry, things will be back to normal and in my opinion better for ToledoTalk and for the NWO online community as a whole.
