Columbia Gas announces $1.5 million Hamilton area upgrade

flameColumbia Gas of Ohio customers in Toledo’s Hamilton Street area will benefit from a natural gas pipeline improvement.

Approximately 20,000 feet of natural gas main line will be replaced beginning Monday, June 27th, weather permitting. The $1.5 million project will upgrade existing steel pipe with plastic pipe and will impact both residential and commercial customers along several streets bond by Brown Avenue, Nebraska Avenue, Hawley Street and Campbell Street. The project is scheduled to be completed in late Fall.

The work will require a temporary interruption of natural gas service. Customers impacted will be contacted via letter in advance of the scheduled work. Columbia Gas will make personal contact with customers prior to shutting off service and to schedule re-light appointments.

As a reminder, all Columbia employees and contractors carry identification cards bearing their name, photograph and identification number and will be happy to show them.

Columbia is investing in capital projects across Ohio to improve the safety and reliability of its pipeline system, including nearly $2 billion over the next 25 years to improve its 19,000 mile underground pipeline system. The work will also ensure customer access to adequate supplies of natural gas, a domestically abundant, safe and environmentally responsible solution to our nation’s energy needs today and tomorrow. In addition to creating jobs in local communities, this work will result in a modern energy system helping keep Ohio business and industry globally competitive.

Columbia Gas of Ohio, with headquarters in Columbus, is one of the nine energy distribution companies of NiSource Inc. (NYSE: NI). Serving approximately 1.4 million customers in 61 of Ohio’s 88 counties, it is the largest natural gas utility in the state. NiSource distribution companies serve 3.8 million gas and electric customers primarily in seven states.
