It was expected, but in case anyone missed it – 13abc is reporting that Toledo fire fighters union, Local 92 is moving forward with filing a grievance on the minimum manning number now that Toledo is moving forward with the merger with Ottawa Hills for fire services.

The City of Toledo’s position is that grievances are filed all the time, they don’t believe Local 92 will win this grievance, the minimum manning only exists because Toledo has agreed for it to be in the fire fighters contract. Local 92′s position is that the 103 minimum manning is based in part on a certain number of fire fighters needed for each station, if the number of stations increases, so should the minimum manning.

This will take a while to go through the whole process, in the mean time, the City of Toledo will use their projected profit from the Ottawa Hills merger to balance the 2011 budget.
